I miss the serendipity of pre-lockdown life. There are things digital can’t recreate, and those things it does recreate feel hollow by comparison.
A year in and it gets to me. I miss entering a pub and to find a half dozen unfamiliar pump clips. I miss taking a punt on new beer, that possibility I’ll discover something amazing.
Online equivalents are flawed: supermarkets have dozens of safe choices; specialist beer shops have the range but no character, no community. Where’s the curation, the knowledgeable bartender, the helpful know-it-all punter?
Liken it to books, or snacks, or music, or shoes, whatever your kink is. Too much choice is overrated.
There is wonder to be found in chance encounters and limited options.
